Energy Efficiency through LED Lighting in Sports Facilities

The Challenge::
The modernization of the lighting system at the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Football Pitch is a prime example of how LED technology can enhance energy efficiency and lighting quality in sports facilities.
The project aimed to replace outdated 2000W discharge technology floodlights with more efficient solutions, ensuring higher performance and greater sustainability.
The Solution:
To meet the project’s requirements, 24 Philips Optivision LED Gen 3.5 floodlights were installed, specifically designed for sports lighting applications. These luminaires deliver an illumination level of approximately 500 lux, compliant with Class I of the EN12193 standard.
Additionally, the Casambi lighting control platform was integrated – an innovative and pioneering solution in Portugal – allowing local or remote control of light levels, ensuring greater flexibility and energy efficiency in lighting management.

Installed Equipment and Solutions
To further boost the efficiency and flexibility of the LED lighting system, this project also included the Casambi smart lighting control solution. Combined with the Philips OptiVision LED Gen 3.5 floodlights – designed specifically for sports facility lighting – the Casambi system allows precise and intuitive light level management, either locally or remotely.
This Bluetooth-based control solution enables advanced energy management, delivering clear benefits in energy savings, visual comfort, and operational versatility, making the sports venue more efficient and technologically advanced.
Casambi technology stands out as one of the top lighting control solutions for sports venues, with features that include dynamic light adjustment, scenario scheduling, and integration with motion and daylight sensors, contributing to smarter and more sustainable lighting management.
